Sometimes it's nice to get advice from experts with a lot of letter degrees behind their names, but other times, you just need to hear what another parent (with a M.O.M. behind her name) has done that has worked. You've got questions? These moms have answers.

Why, all of a sudden, is he afraid to poop in the potty?

3 answers
My son is 4 1/2 years old and has been pooping like a champ, in the potty, since he was 2 1/2 to 3 years old. Now all of a sudden he says it make him feel "weird" to go and refuses to poop. As far as he is concerned he will never poop again. I have talked with him to try and figure out what the problem is, but can get nothing out of him. What would make him stop all of a sudden?

Maybe he got a little constipated once, and it hurt. So he just decided that hes not going to again. A simple solution to a child. It hurts, so I'm not going to. :)
The way I see it, he is probably feeling uneasy about this because he is unfamiliar with bodily functions. Just try to give it to him straight: explain that pooping isn't weird, it is a normal and healthy part of human life. Note that pooping is the process of getting rid of all the yucky toxins that can make us sick, so poop is good to get rid of!
