Sometimes it's nice to get advice from experts with a lot of letter degrees behind their names, but other times, you just need to hear what another parent (with a M.O.M. behind her name) has done that has worked. You've got questions? These moms have answers.

They could be braxton hicks...if it's just tightening in your stomach in which pain does not increase w/ each contraction they are just braxton hicks. If the pain increases e/ every contraction, they get closer together, last longer each time and are accompanied by back pain you should call your doctor asap.
