2.4 Million Polly Pocket Play Sets Recalled

November 21, 2005
Mattel Inc. has recalled 2.4 million Polly Pocket doll play sets. Tiny magnets inside the dolls and accessories can fall out and be swallowed, aspirated, or lodged into a child's nose or ears. If more than one magnet is swallowed, they can attract each other, causing injuries that could be fatal. If a magnet is aspirated, immediate surgery is required. Magnets lodged in the nose or ears can cause swelling and be difficult to remove.

The magnets measure 1/8 inches in diameter and are embedded in the hands and feet of some dolls, as well as in the plastic clothing, hair pieces, and other accessories to help the pieces attach to the doll or doll's house. The model number is printed on the bottom of the largest pieces of some of the play sets.

The following play sets are included in the recall:

* Polly Pocket! Polly Place Hangin' Out House (Item Number B2632)
* Polly Pocket! Polly Place Treetop Clubhouse (B3158)
* Polly Pocket! Spa Day (B3201)
* Polly Totally! Polly Place Totally Tiki Diner (B7118)
* Polly Pocket! Quik-Clik Boutique (G8605)
* Polly Pocket! Quik-Clik City Pretty Playset (H1537)
* Polly Pocket! Quik-Clik Sporty Style Playset (H1538)
* Polly Pocket! Totally Zen Playset (H3211)

The play sets were sold at discount department stores and toy stores nationwide from May 2003 through September 2006 for between $15 and $30. Polly Pocket play magnetic play sets currently on store shelves are not included in this recall.
