Is It Safe to Have Sex Again?

If you are referring to intercourse, there is no single set of guidelines that apply to every woman, says Henry Klapholz, M.D., an associate clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology  at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, in Boston. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and most doctors advise waiting you have entirely healed from your delivery and you feel comfortable, which usually takes four weeks. Those who have had a c-section, episiotomy, or who tend to recover slowly in general, may want to wait longer.

If you're in doubt about when it's safe to resume having sex, ask your ob-gyn what she recommends.
