"I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia at 27 weeks and 3 days. I had been sick my entire pregnancy, and the weekend of my husband's Army BASIC graduation I was sicker than ever  -- my entire body was swollen from head to toe. I went in for a routine checkup that following Monday, and the doctor sent me straight to the emergency room. Evangeline Dollie was born at 27 weeks and 5 days, on March 31, 2005, weighing just 1 pound, 12 ounces.
She was on a ventilator for 17 hours and then went on oxygen. She had a tube put in her ankle that ran up her body near her heart to give her medicine that she needed. Surprisingly, she came home just 7 weeks later, weighing 3 pounds, 6 ounces, despite the doctors' expectations that she would be in the hospital for 3 months! I felt like more of a nurse than a mother for the first year of her life, what with her monitor and all the different types of medicine I had to give her.
She's now 17 months old, and about to start walking. Evangeline is my miracle, and looking at her now, no one can guess that she came early!"
