He’ll delight in any loving touch from his mom, but the ancient form of massage called Tuina is especially relaxing, says Kyle Cline, author of Chinese Massage for Infants and Children. Try it after a bath or before bedtime:
- With the pad of your thumb, lightly press the pad of your baby’s thumb. Rotate in small circles in one direction for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat on his other hand
- Starting at either one of his wrists, push your thumb along the thumb side of his inner forearm, stopping at the elbow. Repeat for 30 to 60 seconds; now switch to the other arm
- Move your first three fingers in a circular motion around his tummy, with the belly button as the center of the circle, for three to five minutes – or until he drifts off to sleep!
