Wouldn’t it be nice if every parent had access to top-of-the line designers to help decorate their baby’s nursery? Well, Pottery Barn Kids is providing us with the next best thing. The brand teamed up with designer extraordinaire Jeremiah Brent to create a nursery collection that is utterly gorgeous, and it just launched today.
You may know Brent from his various interior design work or perhaps from the show “Nate & Jeremiah By Design,” he stars in with his husband and fellow designer, Nate Berkus. To say these two are a design powerhouse team is a total understatement.
We got a chance to talk to Brent, who shares daughter Poppy and son Oskar with Berkus, ahead of the release of his Pottery Barn Kids collection about what inspired him. According to Brent, it was a no brainer. “My family!” he tells Parenting. “The collection really turned into this beautiful quilt of experiences and stories that we’ve had as a family,” he says. “What worked for us, things that didn’t work that I now wish I had done a different way. And it really kind of blossomed into this timeline of what it was to raise kids and to know what you needed to make things easier on yourself as a parent.”
Memories and family totems are all artfully woven into the 14-piece nursery and bath collection, and you can see that so much thought was put into every design. “In our household, each of us has a totem that’s a part of our story,” he reveals. “My daughter is an elephant, my son a tiger and myself, a hummingbird.” The bronze Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids Hummingbird Mobile and cozy Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids Hummingbird Blanket pay tribute to Brent’s late grandmother, while the Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids Jungle Crib Bedding features elephants and tigers, which are symbolic of his children.
When asked about his favorite piece from the collection, Brent did admit it was hard to choose but finally revealed it’s a very special quilt. “On the quilt, I put a Joshua Tree in remembrance of my husband’s late partner who died in the Indian Ocean tsunami,” he said. “Our son was actually named after him and it was actually a really beautiful moment, and I get chills all the time thinking about people who will hopefully see their stories and connect to things in different ways through this collection.” The ivory velvet quilt, which can be personalized, is also adorned with tassels and embroidered animal icons.
The collection’s thoughtful design includes functions and details specific to the needs of new parents. The Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids Crystal Table Lamp, for example, was inspired by Brent’s wedding day and has a dimming feature to create the perfect lighting for everything from late night feedings to morning routines. Designed in vintage 1950s silhouette, the Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids Nursery Rocker features soft curved lines to keep parents comfortable throughout the long hours of the night. “I think one thing that was really important for me was creating a collection that still felt sophisticated but playful, and Pottery Barn Kids got that,” Brent says. “They wanted to push the boundary a little bit and think how we could introduce things that feel textrual and things that we don’t necessarily gravitate toward for a kid’s nursery.”
The Jeremiah Brent x Pottery Barn Kids nursery collection features crib linens, decorative accessories, bath wraps, lighting, a rug and nursery glider as well as a diaper bag and changing pad clutch. You can shop some of our favorite items below starting at just $39.
