Dad Shoots Daughter’s Laptop Because of Facebook

Fed-Up Dad

You may have already seen this YouTube video of Tommy Jordan, a dad who takes his exasperation with his daughter and Facebook to a whole new level. It’s becoming a viral sensation primarily because 1) it’s a video monologue by a totally fed-up dad with a teen, but more likely because 2) the video ends with him shooting (yes, as in with a gun) the laptop.

Tommy, according to the video, has had issues with his daughter and Facebook before, but the latest post he found on his daughter’s wall was the last straw. Although she had blocked her parents on Facebook, he still managed to find a “Letter to My Parents” on her wall – a lengthy and whiny letter by an angst-ridden teen about how she has so many chores, doesn’t get paid and blah, blah, blah.

Here are a few choice quotes from the letter:

“I’m not your damn slave, it's not my responsibility to clean up your sh*t…”

“I’m tired of picking up after you. You tell me at least once a day that I need to get a job. You could pay me for all the sh*t I do around the house.”

“I have no idea how I have a life. I’m gonna hate to see the day when you get too old to wipe your own a** and you call me asking me for help. I won’t be there.”

“Signed your pissed kid, Hannah.”

Wow, talk about bitter! The eight minute-long video consists of Tommy reading the letter, responding to the letter and then taking action against the letter, hence, the shootings. Here is the description that Tommy has under the video on YouTube:

My daughter thought it would be funny/rebellious/cool to post on her Facebook wall just how upset she was and how unfair her life here is; how we work her too hard with chores, never pay her for chores, and just in general make her life difficult.

She chose to share this with the entire world on Facebook and block her parent's from seeing it. Well, umm... she failed. As of the end of this video, she won't have to worry anymore about posting inappropriate things on Facebook...

Maybe a few kids can take something away from this... If you're so disrespectful to your parents and yourself as to post this kind of thing on Facebook, you're deserving of some tough love. Today, my daughter is getting a dose of tough love.

And with no further ado, here’s the video (the shooting starts at about 7:15):

The video has already been viewed 1.5 million times and is making waves and garnering cheers and jeers – many lauding him for standing up to his kid’s disrespectful behavior and anointing him “dad of the year” and “best dad ever.” One comment even suggests, “Tommy Jordan for President!!” To see more comments, check out his status update on his Facebook page

While he’s certainly sending a message, what kind of message is that? Do you think this is a case of dads-gone-bad or is this just the kind of tough love his rebellious daughter needs?
