School Transformation Grant Winner

I’m thrilled to announce the winner of Parenting Magazine’s first ever Mom Congress School Transformation Grant Contest – Wylie Preparatory Academy in Wylie, Texas!

The contest was created to give one school in need the funds it requires to be more successful and was announced in April of this year at the Mom Congress on Education and Learning conference in Washington, D.C.  Schools from around the country submitted photos and essays and visitors to voted for the most deserving entry to win the $20,000 prize.

Wylie Preparatory Academy received the highest number of votes for its essay, outlining its ten year history of growth and struggle to procure space for the growing number of students who are drawn to its Christian-based college-preparatory program.

The school has been holding classes at a local church for the past several years and in 2009, they purchased property and began construction on a new campus.  The grant money will be used to complete the project and support the students as they begin this, their first school year with all grades attending school in the new facility.

In their essay, they stated:

We have done much of the site preparation ourselves striving to be very conservative with our funds.  We have raised all but $50,000 of the funds necessary to complete our initial building plans.  We continue to seek God’s will in our growth and strive to be good stewards of our funds. Your support would be greatly appreciated!

We appreciate all the work they are doing to educate kids and prepare them for college and future life.  Congratulations Wylie Preparatory Academy!
