Teacher Appreciation Week

My kids’ elementary schools are going all out this week with food, gifts and kind words to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate the work they do.  This reminds me of Mother’s Day.  It’s good to have a week to focus on supporting and loving our teachers but I think that more of us should do more throughout the year to help make their jobs easier and let them know how much their life’s work means to the success our life’s work as parents.

But, for now we have this week where everyone is focused on honoring and supporting teachers so let’s make the most of it.  Bring them gifts, both personal and those that fill classroom needs.  Give of your time.  Write sincere notes of thanks.  Brag about them to their administrators.  Encourage your kids to get involved in the fun.  Buy them all new cars.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3rd is National Teacher Day and the NEA website has some background on how the day got started and ideas for how to celebrate our educators.  Check it out!

I’d love to hear your ideas for honoring teachers in the comments section below.
