Lay Baby Lay

22w5d- I love interior design. In a former life, I think I was an architect or decorator. With my pregnancy over the halfway hump, I’m finally letting myself buy a few things here and there for our little Nugget’s room. I have a hard time containing the excitement…

Through the wonders of Pinterest, Etsy and design blogs, I’ve decided (for right now at least) on a cream and black theme with pops of color, like coral, purple and navy. My husband wants bright colors and says that the baby’s room doesn’t have to be so Restoration Hardware… But what do men know about decorating? This baby is going to be sophisticated, serene and modern. Think sporty meets trendy meets elegant. Barefoot chic. No Minnie Mouse themes for my daughter. Well, until she’s old enough to say, “Chill out, Mom. I’m a baby. I love Minnie Mouse and hate your black and cream theme.” I figure I have a few short years to design the room myself :)

Here are a few design inspirations:

Lay Baby Lay is one of the best design blogs I've ever found. Matches my style perfectly. I'd love for her to come design my nursery! I love the colors and all the mismatched photos over the dresser. I also love having the changing area on top of the ornate vintage dresser. No need for a separate expensive changing table that you'll only use for a few years.

On Etsy, Pink Puppy Paper Co. has adorable prints with adorable little sayings. Owner Becky is very fun to work with. And I just ordered an original print from Aeropagita Prints.

I love the real-life nurseries here on Parenting. I'm pulling ideas from each photo.

I bought this black and cream rug from Crate & Barrel. I love it! Plus, if we change the baby's room later, this rug will work in other parts of the house.

Let's share ideas! I’d love to see what your nurseries look like. Find me on Facebook or Twitter @PregnantAshley.
