I am not a person with many vices. If I had to list them quickly, I’d say dirty martinis (when I’m not pregnant and even then only every once in a while), all the reality shows on Bravo, the Twilight series (and movie -- can’t wait for New Moon!) and, of course, Diet Coke.
Now that I’m pregnant I try not to drink it too often, but I find myself craving them, wanting something bubbly and cola-y (seltzer just doesn’t cut it all the time). And I’m conflicted about it. It’s not that I’m worried about the caffeine -- I only drink decaf coffee and I rarely eat chocolate (I’m not sure why, but I just don’t crave it at all when I’m pregnant) -- but I know Diet Coke is not the best thing to drink when you’re not growing a new person inside you, so as a pregnant lady it can’t be ideal.
When I was pregnant with Alex, I probably only drank a handful of DCs the entire nine months, but now, if I’m being honest, it’s a bit more of a weekly habit. Sometimes several a week. And as much as I am way more relaxed this time around, I can’t help feeling a little guilty every time I hear that pop and sizzle of a new can opening up.
So, what are your thoughts on the subject? Do you/did you drink Diet Coke (or any soda) when you were pregnant? Do you drink it at all? Should I quit?
