I was supposed to take Alex to have a flu shot on Friday but I got a call from his pediatrician’s office the night before telling me they ran out. My response: $%#!!! Seriously, I said, $%#!!! Then I got a little dramatic with the poor girl on the phone. I said, “Um, can you be sure you write in my son’s file that his mother has cancer and is six-and-a-half months pregnant and he absolutely NEEDS a flu shot the second the new batch comes in?” She put me on hold and the office manager come on to calm me down—and tell me that they should have more shots in mid October and I could call every few days to check in. Ugh, ugh, ugh.
I’m not normally panicked about this stuff. Last year I didn’t even get a flu shot. But things have changed since then. I’m off my treatment and pregnant, Alex is in school three days a week and, I’m not gonna lie, the whole swine flu debacle of last spring has got me a little freaked out (though Alex is just getting the regular flu shot, not H1N1…). I’m getting my shot through my OB next week but Alex needs a pediatric dose, which is not the kind they offer at CVS and other random places so I’m kind of at the mercy of the pediatrician’s office. And, in case you can’t tell, I’m kind of pissed. Especially since we’re getting on a germ-infested airplane on Wednesday (more about our trip later…).
How about you guys? Are you nervous about the flu this season? Are you getting the shot? Are your kids? Know of any secret places to get a pediatric dose?
