I have my second book club meeting tonight and I am very excited. For one, I get out of the house, which is kind of a rarity when you work from home and are eight months pregnant. For two, I’ll be eating yummy snacks and maybe having a sip of wine. (Isn’t that what book club is all about, anyway?) And for three, I will have a new book to read! I finished the first one -- Water for Elephants, which I loved, loved, loved -- over a week ago and I’ve been lost ever since. I’ve been biding my time reading the Pottery Barn catalog before bed but it just isn’t the same.
Tonight we’ll be picking book #2 and I have to come with suggestions. So far I’ve got nada, which is why I need your advice. The last three books I’ve read, prior to BC: The Help by Kathryn Stockett (loved), I See You Everywhere by Julia Glass (didn’t like nearly as much as her other two) and Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (it took me forever to get into it, but by the end I was hooked). Oh, and the entire Twilight series…beyond. So it can’t be any of those.
That’s the toughest part about picking a book: trying to find something that no one has read yet (some of these girls are serious readers so it's doubly hard), but making sure it isn’t too obscure either.
And how do you recommend a book you've never read?! You ask for help! What have you read recently? What have you loved? This will likely be the last book I read for a while seeing as right after next month’s meeting I’ll be popping out a child so I want it to be a good one. Any and all suggestions welcome!!! THANK YOU.
