I’m hosting Thanksgiving: Got any survival tips?

Next Thursday I will be hosting my first ever Thanksgiving and I couldn’t be more excited. I absolutely love to cook and entertain (if I didn’t have a job, I’d already be ironing the tablecloths and arranging the centerpieces) and it makes me feel very grown-up--in a good way. I am also, however, nervous. Nervous because I tend to overdo it and I’m almost eight months pregnant and actually starting to feel that way. And it’s a pretty major Thanksgiving….

First we’re having dinner for 12 people, which is totally manageable. Nick and I are only responsible for the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and rolls and my mom and sisters are bringing all the sides and other goodies. So that should be a piece of cake, right? Except that Nick and I have never made a turkey or stuffing or gravy….Yipes!

Then there are going to be 35 of us here for dessert. All of my New York aunts and cousins and cousin’s kids are coming plus the California crew who are flying in (including my super cool marine cuz, John, who just got back safely from another stint in Afghanistan). Needless to say it’s going to be a very special Thanksgiving. And I am honored that I get to host it. I know this probably sounds silly but I always dreamed of someday having a house and throwing holiday parties and now that time is here. Yay!

BUT, since I’ve never hosted Thanksgiving before in my life, let alone done it 8 months pregnant, I thought we could trade some survival tips today. Got any? What are your plans for the big day? Is anyone else as excited as I am??!!
