There's a lot of bad news out there these days, so when an email about the Be The Match Registry (the new name for the National Bone Marrow Donor Program) popped in my box, it reminded me that there are still a lot ways we can make our own good. I've been a long-time blood donor, but now I'm seriously considering joining the bone marrow registry. My mother is a cancer survivor, and in my 35 years I've already seen far too many friends and relatives fight, and sometimes lose, their own battles with this disease. Sure, deciding to literally give a part of yourself requires time, consideration and, yes, some pain, but the payoff is immeasurable. After all, what's more rewarding than helping to save a life?
