First Family Watch: The Obamas Take London

The Obamas arrived in the UK Wednesday for the G-20 summit and since then they've been the toast of Londontown! Hundreds of reporters gathered to hear the President's press conference after his meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and, as usual, Michelle's fashion choices garnered her comparisons to Jackie O.

But what everyone is talking about is the fact that Michelle Obama hugged the Queen. And the Queen hugged Michelle Obama. A witness described the event to the British Daily News:

"There was a bit of a bottleneck as all of the leaders filed out [of a reception] so the Queen started chatting to Michelle Obama. She appeared to look up at her and make a comment about how tall she was. As she did, she put her arm around Mrs. Obama and rested her gloved hand on the small of her back. Almost simultaneously, Mrs. Obama put her arm around the Queen's shoulders rather more firmly…The entire exchange lasted around eight to ten seconds but was absolutely extraordinary."

The English were shocked -- it's believed that Queen Elizabeth II hasn't made such an affectionate gesture in her 57 years on the throne.
