The Great American Smokeout

I never smoked, but my husband did, and even though he quit 10 years go, he can still wax poetic about the greatness of a smoke. Everyone I know who quit struggled with it, often for years. But these days, there's no ignoring the dangers. Namely, it's a slow death. (And it causes wrinkles and bad breath. Also, don't they cost like $9 a pack now?)

That's why I'm taking this opportunity to remind everyone that today is The American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout.

Since 1976, the ACS has hosted this 24-hour quit-a-thon. Did you know that you can call their hotline at 1-800-227-2345, and speak with a trained counselor and receive free, confidential counseling?! They make it so easy!

C'mon smokers! Give up the butts for a measly 24 hours and see how it goes. Your lungs (and mine) will love you for it.
