How You Can Donate Health Kits for Girls

I never thought of a box of tampons or pads as a luxury item, but in some parts of the world, they are. So much of a luxury that schoolgirls in Kenya, for example, stay home from school for up to five days every month because they can't afford proper hygiene products. Once they start their periods, girls also face pressure for sex from men - including male teachers - another reason they stay home to hide it.

How can we help? HURU International puts together kits in Kenya, filled with reusable sanitary pads, underwear, soap and HIV/AIDS education material. You can donate a kit for $25. Oprah also links to UNICEF on her website, where similar kits (meant for two people, though not reusable) can be donated for about $9.
