It's an Honor Just to be Nominated

Ahoy film fans, it's Oscar season! Although the Academy Awards are highly political and should not be seen as the ultimate word in film merit, I like to make my predictions every year to judge how my skills stack up against the Academy and my fellow film-lovin' man. Unfortunately, in 2003, I didn't bet on then-relative-unknown Adrien Brody winning Best Actor for The Pianist (I went for Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York -- I mean, c'mon, he played a character named Bill the Butcher and did it with murderous charm and violent pizzazz). If only I had bet on Brody, I would have major street cred with my movie maniac friends to this day.

I have yet to see all the films nominated for Best Picture this year -- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire –- so I can't make a prediction, but Slumdog fever is definitely in the air. Have you or your kids seen any of the Best Animated Feature Films -- Bolt, Kung Fu Panda, or WALL-E (my personal pick!)?

See the full list of this year's nominees and place your bets! The Oscars air on February 22 -- I'll be ready.
