Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Until more serious concerns threw matters into perspective, I obsessed about my pregnancy weight gain. Yes, it’s all for a good cause, but it’s never easy to see the numbers on the scale go up. Making me extra-sensitive about the poundage: a stern talking-to from my OB/GYN, who urged me to gain even less than the respectable 28 pounds I gained during my last pregnancy to preserve my chances of an easier delivery (my daughter was 9 pounds, 2 ounces –- ouch!). Sorry, doc, at 23 pounds up with 9 weeks to go, I’ll overshoot last time but hoping I’ll still come in at the recommended 25 to 35 pounds that woman of normal weight should gain. Vanilla milkshake: it’s not you, it’s me.

How much weight did you gain during your pregnancy? Did you stick to the guidelines of 28 to 40 pounds for underweight women, 25 to 35 pounds for normal, and the new guidelines of 11 to 20 pounds for the obese?
