Ceramic Piggy Banks Recall

Oriental Trading Company, Inc. just announced the recall of about 220,000 ceramic piggy and lion banks due to excessive levels of lead in the yellow surface paint. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

This recall involves only yellow-painted piggy and lion banks with black stoppers on the bottom. Banks with white or translucent stoppers are not being recalled.

The banks were sold online at and, as well as through Oriental Trading Company and Fun Express catalogs from February 2003 through September 2010 for between about $7 to $20 per dozen.

Consumers should immediately take the banks away from kids (returning their savings first, of course!), discard them, and contact the company for information about a refund or store credit.
