But it can be hard to know which vitamins are best. While many parents opt for a multivitamin, specific vitamins should get priority thanks to their immune-boosting benefits. In fact, Dr. Anthony Fauci recommended two vitamins in a recent Instagram live chat with Jennifer Garner, and you better believe we took notice. He first suggested vitamin D, which made headlines this year thanks to its ability to fight off infections.
“I would not mind recommending, and I do it myself, taking vitamin D supplements,” he said.
When it comes to babies and toddlers, “it is extremely important for children to have adequate levels of vitamin D,” Dr. Abisola Olulade, a California-based pediatrician, tells Parenting. “Children 0 to 12 months need 400 IU or 10mcg of vitamin D and all other children mostly need at least 600IU or 15mcg.“
Dr. Fauci also highlighted vitamin C because “it’s a good antioxidant.”
“So if people want to take a gram or so of vitamin C, that would be fine,” he explained.
