Face masks are the must-have accessory to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone over the age of 2 wear a face covering when outside, we’ve seen retailers like Old Navy, Vistaprint, Cubcoats and more start to create face masks for kids. But we know firsthand that getting a kid to wear a face mask is easier said than done. Luckily, there are more options, like face shields and comfortable neck gaiters.
Neck gaiters in particular are a great option for kids who are reluctant to wear a face mask as they are free from tight elastic and are made from soft fabric that stays put around your child’s face. They do an excellent job of keeping kids’ noses and mouths covered and work well in all seasons (in addition to protecting your little one’s skin from the sun’s harmful rays). You can opt for a cooling neck gaiter in the summer and a thicker one in the winter that works as a scarf. Also, kids can easily pull the gaiter up or down depending on their surroundings, and they are virtually impossible to lose.
Kids who are sensitive to face masks or who don’t like the feeling of something pulling at their ears will find wearing a neck gaiter much more comfortable. Another draw? They come in so many kid-friendly designs, like tie-dye and animal prints.
We found the eight best neck gaiters for kids on Amazon, Etsy, and Nordstrom that shoppers rave about for their own children. Check them out below.
