When Neil Patrick Harris isn’t busy conquering the stage and screen he has his hands full with his 8-year-old twins, Harper and Gideon, that he shares with husband, David Burtka. His twins entered 3rd grade this year so he and his family are right in “education station,” he told Parenting EXCLUSIVELY, earlier this month. He was also shocked to learn that “96% of teachers spend out of pocket over $700 a year for pencils and things that they need in their classrooms,” so he teamed up with Chewy to do something about it!
Every Chewy purchase made until Sept 30, 2019 will help teachers through AdoptAClassroom.org. Simply enter the UPC code on your box of Chewy at ChooseChewy.com and Quaker will donate $1, up to $250,000, to Adopt A Classroom to benefit schools in need! As Harris puts it, “Raising up to $250,000 for a great organization that helps teachers is a no brainer to me!”
He also had some other great advice on ways parents can support their children’s teachers throughout the year. “Certainly the easiest thing to do is to let your teachers know when things are going well as often as when things are going badly,” he said. “On just a base level, just thanking them and letting them know when they’re doing well, I’m sure, is appreciated.”
He also recommended that parents get involved at their kids’ school when they can. “Volunteering is a great thing to do. Our school asks for volunteers all the time on various levels,” he said. “From stacking books at the library to really getting in there and helping out at events and things.”
No matter what you’re able to do or how you’re able to give back, helping teachers is a win-win! “I think we need to support them,” Harris said. “We are in a society where the teacher is not high up on the professional totem pole and that’s seems short sided.” We totally agree!
