An all-natural, make-ahead sauce recipe so stealth it packs in seven veggies
As a parent of four, I learn new things about kids and food every day. Each child is different, so it's our job as parents to be clever and creative and celebrate the things they will eat rather than worry about what they won't. Through the work I've done with families and schools on TV's Food Revolution, I know that 99 percent of parents are just trying to do the best they can for their children.
What you feed your children every day is one of the most important influences you'll have as a parent. It will affect what they look like, how they feel, what they achieve and, quite frankly, how long they live.
This month I'm giving you one of the most effective weapons in my arsenal: the best tomato sauce ever, with a big twist: It's got seven vegetables hidden in it! If you have a fussy kid who won't eat a vegetable, this sauce is the daddy of them all. It has served me well at my own dinner table and I've also served it to thousands of schoolchildren over the years. It is delicious, good-for-you and a lifesaver for busy parents because my recipe makes a double batch. You can use part of the sauce for the spring pasta recipe and keep the leftovers in the freezer to use for other quick meals: in a lasagna; as a base for stews, soups or a Bolognese sauce; on pizza; or tossed through some pasta.
