How to Make a Hedgehog Bento Lunch Box

A step-by-step recipe for making an easy hedgehog bento lunch box using healthy snacks.

Got leftover breaded chicken? Cut into an oval shape for the body of the hedgehog. Croquettes, which are breaded and baked or fried snacks filled with mashed potatoes, tuna or salmon, are used here.

Antichoking warning: Remember to remove toothpicks and cut up blueberries, grapes, carrots and other food for children under 4. See our Antichoking guide for more information.

Colorful mixed fruit rounds out the bento lunch. Mix and match your kid's favorite kinds.

For the hedgehogs' faces, trim a slice of cheese and cut small "V" shapes on one side. Add a small cheese circle for the nose, and sesame seeds for eyes.

To go with the hedgehogs, arrange ham and egg flowers—here's a step-by-step photo guide on how to make those.

Make veggies into fun shapes to encourage your kid to try them. Push a halved cherry or grape tomato on a baby carrot piece to make a mushroom shape. Sprinkle with carrot flowers (see how to make them with our photo guide).
