The Short of It
A 12-year-old girl in Boulder County, Colo., has been accused of trying to poison her mother twice with bleach. Her motivation? Mom took away her cell phone.
When the girl's mother noticed a bleach taste in her smoothie last week, she assumed her daughter had just recently cleaned the drinking glass. Then a few days later, she noticed a water carafe in her bedroom also had a bleach smell.
"When she smelled the bleach in the carafe, she confronted her daughter, and her daughter told her that she was trying to kill her for taking her iPhone," Police Commander Heidi Prentup told reporters.
Sure, teens love their phones, but make no mistake: This is not normal behavior.
"I have two teenagers that, I think as most teenagers this age, are kind of addicted to their phones," another mom, Luciana Cordova, told KDVR TV, in reaction to the news. "I have [taken their phones away] on occasion, and luckily they have reacted well about it. It sounds like the situation was probably out of hand before that."
Clearly, this girl needs some help. She's now facing two charges of attempted first-degree murder in juvenile court.
