The Short of It
A 4-year-old girl surprised everyone on a public bus in Philadelphia on Friday at 3 a.m. when she boarded it all alone. Where was she going? To get a slushie, of course.
The little girl, Annabelle, snuck out of the back door of her house without her parents knowing and crossed several busy streets to get to the bus stop. When she boarded, she told fellow passengers she was on her way to get a slushie.
"I was like, no, you've got to be kidding me. Not this time of night," bus driver Harlan Jenifer told reporters when describing his reaction to seeing the little girl all alone. He called police, who arrived quickly to bring her home.
Annabelle was returned safely to her parents, who were extremely relieved.
"I wish I could hug [the driver] right now. There's no words. There's no words. He saved my daughter's life," mother Jaclyn Mager said.
As for little Annabelle? She still wants that slushie. During a TV interview, she asked her mother for one again. "I will take you to buy a slushie," Mager said. "But...promise me next time you'll wait for me, okay?"
It's awesome that the community was able to help the family in this emergency situation and avert a crisis. This story just goes to show you that a determined toddler can do anything they put their mind to. I'll be double-checking my locks before I go to bed tonight.
