The Short of It
A 47-year-old Massachusetts woman who didn't know she was pregnant gave birth shortly after learning she was about to become a first-time mom!
Judy and Jason Brown have been married for 22 years. When it came to children, they always said if it was meant to be, it was meant to be, but they weren't trying to get pregnant. So that's why Judy had no idea she was expecting until she went into labor!
How can someone not know they are pregnant? For Brown, it was all about misinterpreting symptoms. She thought her tummy bulge was a sign of her age and that she was turning into her mother, and she thought her missed periods were a sign she was approaching menopause.
So when she began experiencing severe abdominal pain, it never occurred to her she was having a baby. That is, until a doctor told her, "It's good news; there's no blockage; you are pregnant, and you are going to have her now!"
Carolyn Rose was born shortly thereafter, weighing 8 pounds. The couple is borrowing a bassinet for when they take her home, and friends and family are helping with the rest of the preparations that parents usually have nine months to plan for!
Many women are having babies later in life, so it isn't that unusual to become a first-time mom at 47. That being said, many women are also going through menopause in their late 40s and early 50s. It's easy to see why Brown's mind would go there instead of thinking she was pregnant, especially after 22 years in a childless marriage. Clearly, little Carolyn was meant to be!
