The Short of It
For dad blogger Alan Lawrence, a toy elf wasn't enough this Christmas season. Instead, he transformed his 4-month-old son Rockwell into a real-life mini Santa's helper, then photographed him engaging in various forms of mischief all over the house.
According to Lawrence, the inspiration for this project was simple: a friend told him his baby looked like an elf. So why not, right?
"I looked around on the Web and was surprised no one had ever done it before," the dad-of-six told ABC News.
On his blog, Lawrence introduced Rockwell by writing, "Around the first week of December a random elf showed up in our family room. At first I was alarmed and told the kids to stay in their rooms while I tried to figure out what was going on. I was going to call the police but my wife told me I was over reacting.[sic]"
So what kind of trouble is this real life Elf on the Shelf getting into? In one shot, the red elf costume clad little guy sits atop a shower curtain rod, spying on his father. In another image, Rockwell is proudly perched on the toilet he just covered in wrapping paper. One of my favorite images shows him trying to feed cookies to the VCR. Yet another photo shows the little elf drinking syrup right out of the bottle with a straw; another depicts him lobbing marshmallows at his dad's face.
Lawrence seems to really enjoy these types of fantastical projects. Photos he took of his son with Down syndrome in which he appears to be flying went viral in April.
"Having kids keeps me young and allows me the opportunity to still act like a kid sometimes. I imagine as my kids get older they may not want to participate as much but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts," Lawrence says.
We can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve next!
