Fumble! NFL Player Expecting Twins After His Vasectomy

The Short of It

New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie and his wife Terricka are expecting twins. The thing is, he already had a vasectomy.

The Lowdown

In October, Terricka was experiencing bad cramps and went to the emergency room. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would learn she was pregnant.

"I really thought I was dreaming, even after, I was just in total disbelief," she told Us Weekly. "I didn't even tell Antonio right away because I didn't think it was possible. I was going back and forth in my head how it could even happen. In my head we were good to go; we were having free sex! I just really thought that his procedure was the best protection you could have at this point."

A vasectomy prevents 99.85 percent of pregnancies, according to WebMD. So this couple, who are already parents to Jurzie, age 5, and Jagger, age 3, really defied the odds by conceiving twins. Plus, Antonio also has eight other children from previous relationships. They are working on a book about blended families and a new reality show.

Terricka says at first her football player husband was shocked about the news. "It took me a while to process it, but Antonio stood firm and was saying, 'It's God's will.' And he's been excited the whole time."

The Upshot

I found it sad that in the interview with Us Weekly Terricka confessed to being shamed over how many kids Antonio has, as if that would make her pregnancies less special. But to the famous parents, every child they have is a blessing—even the ones they weren't expecting after a vasectomy! As far as how the couple plans to handle birth control after the twins arrive, Terrika says she will get her tubes tied if necessary, joking, "Whatever helps!"
