Emma's mom, Courtney, captured her daughter's reaction to receiving a special edition American Girl doll that, with the help of A Step Ahead Prosthetics, was designed to look just like Emma.
"It's got a leg like me!" the little girl screams between sobs of joy, as she clutches the present to her chest. Emma can't stop crying with delight, and it is simply beautiful to behold.

Her mom wrote on social media that she knew her daughter would love the gift, but after she opened it, Courtney realized how much Emma needed it.
I could never have imagined how much it would mean to a child who goes through life feeling different to see a doll like her. But it does make a lot of sense. If all you see are dolls that resemble one kind of person, it must only reinforce the notion that you are not like that. And that can't be easy.
