Lesbian Couple Gets Creative with Pregnancy Announcement

The Short of It

Lesbian couple Meg and Becca Owen wanted to share their exciting baby news online—and maybe have a little fun at the same time. Now, their creative take on the traditional pregnancy announcement has gone viral.

The Lowdown

The Owens' announcement is simple, but genius. It features a photo of Becca wearing a shirt that says, "I'm pregnant." Standing beside her is her wife Meg, who wears a shirt reading, "I'm not the father." Meg's befuddled expression is hilarious. Meanwhile, Becca smiles serenely.

"We've been so lucky to have such loving and supportive friends and family around our marriage and also this process. So we just wanted a fun way to tell our loved ones that we're starting a family," Meg Owen told The Huffington Post about the inspiration behind the nontraditional pregnancy announcement.

Um, I would say they nailed it!

According to the couple, the response online has been mostly positive. Of course, some commentors found the photo of the growing nontraditional family too controversial. The Owens expected to get a mixed response, but their ultimate goal in sharing their news this way was not to stir up debate.

"While the picture is humorous in tone, I hope people see that this is really all about love. I hope people see that this is normal and beautiful," says Meg.

The Upshot

Becca conceived via IUI. The couple's baby is due this summer. We can't wait to see the baby announcement!
