Short & Sweet
A mom and her 13-year-old son were at their neighborhood corner store in Columbus, Ohio when two armed men approached them and opened fire, grazing her son's leg and hitting his foot. That's when she did the only thing she could do. She pulled out her own licensed gun and shot back at the assailants.
The mom, who asked to remain anonymous, said she recognized one of the suspects, Kevin Hayden, when he walked up to the Wilson Market. She said Hayden and his friends broke into her home a few years ago and have been harassing her ever since. That very harassment is what prompted the mom to get a license to carry a concealed weapon earlier this fall.
She said the man opened fire on them and hit her son in the leg and foot. She started shaking and then pulled out her concealed gun, firing back as the assailants ran away. Hayden is now being held on $250,000 bond. Charges are pending for the other man involved in the attack.
Thankfully, no charges will be brought against this mama bear. The 13-year-old is recovering from his gunshot wounds at home under his mom's protection.
We don't know about you, but we kind of want to high-five this mama bear. If someone was shooting at your baby and you just happened to be carrying, wouldn't your natural reaction be to return fire to protect your child? Ours would be. Maybe these hooligans will think twice about attacking a mom and child next time, if for no other reason than the fear that she might shoot back.
