The Short of It
A Texas mom went up against an alleged carjacker after he threatened her family's safety.
Jessica Liesmann's minivan was struck by Artrai Alexander, a carjacker fleeing from police after he robbed a store.
Enraged that her 13-year-old son was in the car at the time of the crash and could have been badly hurt, Liesmann and her boyfriend, Charles Cook, confronted the criminal. Then the brave mom, who is being described as a Mama Bear by police who arrived on the scene, wrestled Alexander to the ground with Cook's help.
"You probably injure my son and you wreck my car; you're gonna pay," the protective mama said about the incident, according to Good Morning America.
She also explained that given the circumstances, "There's no thinking, it's just a reaction."
Most moms would do just about anything to protect their kids. I'm remembering an incident when I had to defend my daughter against a mom bully at the park, who started yelling at her for no reason. My blood was pumping and adrenaline was coursing through me.
So on a much smaller scale, I can relate to how Liesmann felt. But I'm not sure I would have the guts to confront a carjacker like she did! And her actions may not be advisable for others, as there was no way of knowing if Alexander had a weapon at the time of the crash.
What would you have done in this situation?
