The Short of It
Whew! Get out the tissues before you read about a mom hearing her deceased baby's heart inside the little girl he saved.
Arizona mom Heather Clark lost her 7-month-old son Lukas tragically, after he was abused by a babysitter's boyfriend. But Clark generously decided to donate her baby's organs, including his heart. Four-year-old Jordan Drake received it.
Clark opened up about her wish to meet Jordan, who suffered from a congenital heart defect, in this beautiful message posted to a Facebook group called "Justice for Lukas Scott:"
"I would like to share something with all the amazing Lukas supporters. Today I have been in contact with a beautiful family. This beauty is the girl who has Lukas heart beating in her. One day I will meet her and squeeze her so tightly! Thank you to her mom and dad who allow me to be a part of their lives. This is the best Christmas present I could have asked for. [sic]"
That day came when, at the Phoenix Children's Hospital, Clark was able to listen through a stethoscope to her son's heart beating inside Jordan.
This amazing mom's emotional reaction to hearing her baby's heartbeat is overwhelming to behold. I can't even imagine what Clark is feeling, but I'd guess it's a mix between sorrow and gratitude, as her baby's legacy lives on through the children he helped save. That's right; three other children also received organs from baby Lukas.
And so, despite the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, a baby who didn't even live a full year has made an impact on the world that will last for many years to come.
