The Short of It
A young mom was surprised when a stranger paid for her lunch after seeing her interact with her son.
Katy Simcox and her 3-year-old son, Maddox, were enjoying lunch out with Maddox's dad at a local restaurant in Henderson, Ky., recently when they found themselves at the receiving end of a random act of kindness.
"We were just having a regular meal, with Maddox coloring on a placemat and me paying attention to him like I usually do. I was just listening to him and talking to him," Simcox told Yahoo Parenting.
When it came time to pay, the waitress informed them a woman sitting behind the family had already taken care of the check.
"I looked up and the woman, who seemed to be in her late 30s and wasn't familiar to me, waved me over to her table, where she was having lunch with a female friend," recounts Simcox.
The woman proceeded to explain she had never seen a mom act so caring toward a child. She said, "Other moms can learn a few things from you."
The woman even went so far as to offer her contact information to Simcox, who suffered from postpartum depression, if she ever needed support.
It's more common to hear about moms getting caught up in the mommy wars than to go out of their way to support one another. But wouldn't it be great if more people were like this kind stranger? After all, no one knows how hard it is, or how much pressure we put on ourselves to be perfect, better than other moms. Perhaps this story will inspire others to compliment another mom on something she is doing right next time, rather than judge her.
