The Short of It
BabyCenter has released its list of the top baby names of 2014!
Based on the names given to 400,000 babies of registered users to its site, BabyCenter has compiled a list of the top monikers of the year. Is your little one's name, or the name of your baby-to-be, on this list?
Sophia listed as the most popular name for girls is hardly surprising, since the Social Security Administration declared it the top name in 2013. Emma, Olivia, Ava, Isabella, Mia and Emily also topped the SSA's official list.
But Zoe and Lily didn't make the SSA's top ten. And Madelyn is a newcomer to this list, replacing Chloe.
Perhaps we will meet more little girls with these more popular than ever names in 2014, and beyond?
Meanwhile, here are the top names for boys, according to BabyCenter:
You'll see some familiar names here, too. Aiden, Liam, Noah, Mason and Ethan stole top spots on the SSA's list, which came out last spring.
But Jackson, the No. 1 name for boys on BabyCenter's list, wasn't even in the top ten on the SSA list. In fact, it came in at No. 16. Caden and Logan also appearing in the top ten is noteworthy. It seems these are the names to watch in 2015.
As in past years, a big influencer of baby name popularity is buzzed-about television shows. Monikers like Piper and Nicky have gained momentum, likely due to the national obsession with the Netflix show, "Orange Is the New Black." Meanwhile, the names Frank and Claire are hotter than ever because of "House of Cards."
