The Short of It
Disney announced Wednesday it will launch a remake of its popular cartoon series "DuckTales" to Disney XD channels in 2017. And now, we'll all be singing the theme song the rest of the day.
The original "DuckTales" cartoon, which aired from 1987 to 1990, tells the stories of Donald Duck's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, and their rich Uncle Scrooge, who's notorious for swimming in his money. They go on adventures, such as searching for treasure and protecting Scrooge's money from the infamous Beagle Boys.
Kids of the '80s, you know exactly what I'm talking about!
Not many specifics have been released yet on exactly how the new "DuckTales" will differ from the original, but Disney says Huey, Dewey, Louie, Donald, Scrooge and the Beagle Boys will all be back. So will Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell, Poe, Ma Beagle, Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack.
"Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation," said Marc Buhaj, Disney XD's senior vice president of programming and general manager, in a statement.
I, for one, am completely excited. I grew up watching the show after school (when I should have been doing homework—sorry mom!), and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my kids. I just hope they don't change it too much. Sometimes classics are best left unadulterated.
Let's hope they keep the theme song, too. I can't wait to yell, "DuckTales!" and hear my kids holler back "Woo-Ooo!" This could take over "Let It Go" as the addictive Disney song in my house.
