This book is about self-love for kids. It’s about finding our own unique spots and being okay with what nature gave us. It’s about... seeing what beautiful spots are found in nature by looking at animals and their spots and markings. I was inspired by my first daughter who was born with a Mongolian mark on her leg. She noticed it when she was just a baby and often asked me to wash it off or remove it. I felt so bad that I couldn’t remove it. Each time she would look at it she seemed upset so I told her that her birthmark is just like the marks on many animals in nature. I told her just like a leopard has its spots so does she and that it’s unique to her. This book expands on that idea and hopefully helps little kids accept their birthmarks whatever they may be by illustrating some of nature’s animals/birds/fish/insects and their marks or what I call in the book “spots.” read more
Excerpt from Wild Hyacinth: A NovelI'r was the last day of April, a lovely day, more like those sung of by the poets than the piti...less combinations of east wind and snow-showers to which we, alas! In these degenerate days are more accustomed. The sun shone warm and bright, the sky was of a soft and tender blue, flecked here and there with fleecy white clouds; the foliage exhibited every shade of green, from the pale, delicate leaf of the beech and the silvery gray of the willow to the deeper tint of the budding oak and the sombre shadow of an occasional Scotch fir. There was little breeze stirring; now and again a gentle air moved among the tree-tops and went whispering away among the budding ferns and brambles; but there was nothing oppressive in the stillness, - it was broken by the murmur of the rivulet, by the note of the thrush, the soft cooing of the wood-pigeon, the song of the nightingale and the buzzing of the bees over the sheets of wild hyacinth that seemed as if the sky broke up from under-ground.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. In this version, Blaireau is an inventive badger who is so fascinated with the idea of flying that he builds his own flying machine to enter in a flight competition across the English Channel. Ratham, a wealthy rodent rival, is Louis's challenger on this inaugural journey over water. Louis is eager to win the prize money offered to the winner because he has encountered so many expensive problems and accidents while building his new monoplane design.
