Here is a vintage Carriel cross body bag. It has a very textured front with brown and white hoarser cow hide(not positive which), black leather, red leather, black patent leather a bit of aqua green stitching on black and ivory stitching on black. The back is a woven texture and its stamped with a circle and a star and some words I cant make out. It had this wonderful hand written note inside. Dating back to colonial times it carries with it as many mysteries, as it has 11 pockets, including two underside secret compartments. The larger middle compartment has a zipper and there are two small pockets in the front for a total of nine compartments. It has four brass rings that hold raw light colored leather loops to the strap. A Carriel is a defined as a small leather satchel from Colombia. They are similar in appearance to a saddlebag but worn over the shoulder, usually by men. Carrieles were traditionally made of rawhide or nutria fur and are typical of the Antioquia region of Colombia. The bag is associated with paisa culture and commerce and is a beloved symbol of the industriousness and humble honesty of antioqueos (people from Antioquia, Colombia). The carriel is part of folkloric dress of the region, and is also used by modern businessmen throughout the country. Also Carrieles were used by arrieros (Paisa cowboys) for their horseback trips around Tierra Paisa. This Carriel bag measures 9 high, 7 inches across with a long black leather strap that is adjustable its shortest length is 48 inches can be lengthened to 52 inches.
