Frequent visitors to Competitive Cyclist will know that we tend to privilege the rule of three in our copy descriptions. It's just an effective model of communication. Giro takes a similar approach with its Factress Techlace Women's Shoes, which combine three of the most common fastening systems--Boa's IP1 dial, laces, and hook-and-loop straps--in a triumvirate of cycling shoe satisfaction. The result blends the minimalist profile and customizable fit of the lace-upate of cycling shoe satisfaction. The result blends the minimalist profile and customizable fit of the lace-up Empire with the user-friendly convenience of the original Factress. The Factress Techlace is the first Giro shoe to feature a Boa dial, and Giro uses it to anchor the shoe at the top, which is where the IP1's single millimeter adjustment will come the most in handy. The rest of the shoe is secured by hook-and-loop straps that are in turn anchored by laces. Fit-wise, they feel similar to the original Factress once the straps are tightened and the dial is dialed, but replacing the full straps with laces involves a reduction in material and a corresponding loss of weight. Giro credits the Factress Techlace with a tidy 40g weight loss per shoe when compared to the plain ol' Factress. There will undoubtedly be a chorus of retro-grouches lamenting the combination as unnecessary ostentation, but we heard the same critique of laces when the Empire fist launched, and now it's impossible to imagine a group ride or race without at least one pair in the bunch. The Easton EC90SLX2 sole is an upgrade over the Factress' ACC model, and its use of lighter carbon fiber also contributes to the weight loss. Despite shedding grams, the sole remains stiffly efficient and features a full complement of steel hardware for mounting cleats and replacing the heel pad. As with all of Giro's race shoes, stack height is kept to a minimum in order to eliminate as many barriers between your watts and the pedals as possible. The sole is mated to a single-piece upper made of the same Teijin Evofiber SL Giro uses for its other top-tie...… read more

When it comes to choosing road kit, we admit that we like to look good. With shoes, this often means, sleek and understated as the... industry moves further and further away from the overwrought bobbles we all rode in the '90s and '00s. Giro has been a leading proponent of the cycling industry's nascent minimalism, and the Raes Techlace Women's Shoe is the latest model to embody the brand's artful marriage of understated form and over-achieving function. Each individual shoe is a paltry 44 claimed grams heavier than its more expensive Factress Techlace counterpart, and since it has a carbon sole, that makes it ideal for the aspirational cyclist who values weekend centuries as much as putting in a good showing at the Tuesday night crit series. The weight gain likely comes in the sole--which is built from Easton's EC70 carbon fiber instead of the Factress Techlace's EC90 SLX--or the uppers, which are a multi-piece construction instead of the Factress' sleeker, single-piece design. Regardless of the added grams, the EC70 sole still provides that crisp, lively spring we expect from carbon soles, and the upper secures the foot like a second skin. The fit owes its comfort to the Raes' peculiar mash-up of closure technologies: the shoe features everything from the standard hook-and-loop to laces and a Boa L6 dial. The design may seem unnecessarily complicated, but anyone who has experience the indescribably painful hotspots caused by hammering for 60 miles in ill-fitting shoes will confirm that, when it comes to fit, the more engineered, the better. read more

Pro-level shoes aren't always practical, especially if you take part in multiple disciplines or are just getting into cycling. Or ...maybe, like many of us, you're more interested in kit that just works rather than the Latest & GreatestTM. Giro understands this, so it took features from its high-end models and adapted them to a shoe that won't take up your entire budget for the season just because some pro with a funny haircut and lively social media account wears it, too. Giro constructs the shoes with a smooth, vented microfiber upper for a contoured fit around your foot. The Solara II features welded and bonded uppers that limit the number of traditionally sewn seams to reduce the likelihood of hot spots and blisters. While some entry-level cycling shoes receive little to no midsole treatment, Giro adds a molded EVA footbed to the Solara IIs to provide efficiency-improving arch support throughout your pedal stroke. The footbed is treated with an Aegis antimicrobial coating to keep it smelling fresh, while a DuPont Zytel nylon outsole provides reliable power transfer from your legs to the pedals. When you're getting ready to ride, take advantage of the option to fine-tune the fit of the shoes at three points across the top of your foot to avoid numbness and hot spots. Giro includes two hook-and-loop straps across the instep and a micro-adjustable N-1 ratcheting buckle at the top. read more
Feeling your shoe flex over your pedal when you're hammering out to the front of the pack on race day is less than ideal, but so i...s spending a fortune when you're a self-sponsored rider. Instead of diving in to budget shoes just to save a few bucks, find the perfect happy medium with the Giro Espada Boa Shoe for Women, designed with stiff carbon soles, and a price that isn't too hard to swallow. These shoes are designed for the avid cyclist and new cyclist alike, with a comfortable fit and snug uppers that can be cinched down right where you want them, and replaceable walking pads, so they can last for years. Beginning construction, the Espada shoes start out with microfiber and mesh uppers that hold your foot in like a warm hug, but with ample venting, so that warm hug doesn't turn into hot-foot. The mesh is perfect for transferring moisture if your foot gets sweating, and perforations in the microfiber help heat escape from your feet constantly. The uppers are constructed with both a L6 boa, for micro adjustments, and a hook and loop strap in the forefoot for tightening things down with serious support, ensuring minimal foot slip when you're putting down maximum power. Inside of the shoe you'll find a supple EVA insole, with molded arch and heel support that keep your foot in a comfortable position when you're laying down the power. To make sure you don't experience flex and twists when you're putting out maximum watts, the sole is constructed out of Easton's stiff and supportive EC70 carbon fiber composite, allowing for direct power transfer into your pedals with every stroke. The sole also features a replaceable walking pad, making them ideal for long term use, as they won't go out of commission after a year of hard wear and tear. The shoes are equipped with steel hardware for running three-bolt road cleats, for compatibility with most road cycling pedals. read more
Adventure cycling presents its own host of requirements for a shoe that leave traditional road and mountain options sorely lacking... in functionality. Giro's Women's Petra VR Shoes let you get the walkability and stiff power transfer you need in a package that'll blend in easily at the pre-ride brunch gathering. Classic lace-up styling offers massive adjustability, and a grippy sole with two-bolt cleat compatibility means these shoes are up for everything from around-town noodles to epic gravel adventuring in the desert wilderness.Giro fashions the Petra VR's uppers from a mix of synthetic fabrics and mesh, blended to provide a balance of protection and breathability that'll have your feet turning in comfort through dusty side roads, rocky access points, and cloud-clearing sunbursts. The lace-up closure system isn't just there for style, but also offers precise adjustability for an impeccably customized fit that minimizes pressure points.Underfoot, a molded shank gives the sole needed stiffness to efficiently transfer power into speed while leaving enough flex for comfortable walkability during hike-a-bike and coffee shop situations. To cap things off, a Vibram Rubber Outsole provides sure-footed grip while an EVA midsole offers comfortable support. read more
Clipless shoes may have their place on the trail, but that place isn't on your feet. You prefer having extra mobility, freedom, an...d comfort when you hop off and shoulder your bike through overgrown sections of backcountry dirt, and we don't blame you. Designers at Giro seem to understand as well, which is why they crafted the Riddance Women's Cycling Shoes. These sleek flats pack in ultra tacky Vibram Megagrip ISR rubber to keep you glued to the pedals when you hammer through rugged rock gardens, and EVA to soak up some of the rough trail vibrations as you charge further down the trail. The Riddance shoes feature synthetic uppers with plenty of perforation to let fresh air in to keep you cool, and water-resistant protection to keep your flippers dry through the muddiest corners. Inside Giro aims to support your arches with an EVA footbed that dampens pedal strikes and brake bumps. But the star of the show isn't the upper, instead its the newly developed Vibram Megagrip ISR rubber outsole. This rubber was designed with input from Giro to land you with total grip that sticks to your pedals through jarring corners and tire-gobbling technical sections, while adding an additional layer of vibration damping to keep you comfortable through all day rides deep into the backwoods, diving into the trails less traveled. read more
The Giro Terradura Women's Mountain Shoes strike the perfect balance between super stiff-soled shoes that transfer all the power b...ut aren't great for walking and soft-soled shoes that walk well but feel squishy on the pedals. Giro uses a strong and durable nylon shank that's stiff enough to get down the trail fast and just flexible enough to keep your heels in your shoes when hiking your bike up a steep incline. A Vibram lugged outsole also grips rocks and other obstacles that you come across on the trails better than shoes that come outfitted with plastic lugs. Even with all that attention to the outsole, Giro didn't ignore fit. The Terradura's upper is designed to fit a narrower foot, with a ratcheting buckle and two hook-and-look closures for a comfy and secure fit. Perforations in the microfiber upper let feet breathe, and toe box reinforcement provides durable impact protection. read more
It's been all too long that we ladies have been put on the backburner by brands in the biking world. Fortunately, it does seem tha...t slowly (but surely) slack is being picked up, and we are being offered gear that's built for those of us reaching for podiums, pushing ourselves to the limit and charging into terrain that the world of shrink-it-and-pink-it doesn't dare to dream of. The Giro Sica Techlace, while offering a pink option, isn't one to fall into soft and frilly category, and certainly doesn't treat us like delicate little flowers. These shoes are made to be tough, with stiff carbon soles that commit maximum power to your cranks, and rugged vibram lugs for charging up the mountain with a bike over-shoulder. The Sica Techlace Shoe is built just as burly as its male counterpart, the Giro Code, featuring the same Evofiber Microfiber uppers that wrap your foot in snugly, and wick away perspiration through perforations throughout the entire shoe. The toe and heel are reinforced with rubber for protection against chunky rock gardens and trail debris, with a stretch paneling through the arch to shield you from unwieldy cranks. The enclosure system includes an L6 Boa dial, which offers micro-adjustments in 1mm increments, and two Techlace straps that provide an enhanced, supple feel across the forefoot. Inside, the shoe features Giro's SuperNatural FitKit with adjustable arch support, and Aegis odor-fighting fiber. This insole molds to your foot with a series of inserts for enhancing comfort whether you're flat-footed or have arches steeper than the mountains around you. The soles of the Sica Techlace feature Easton's EC70 carbon fiber for ultimate stiffness and power, eliminating flex that can cost you watts when you're fighting for a virtual QOM or an actual podium on race day. This ultra-stiff sole is backed up with Vibram rubber, known for its tacky grip and durability, with aggressive, directional lugs that keep your footing sure if an off-bike section is... read more
Hit the trails for a day of rolling singletrack or push it even further to full-blown backcountry adventure in the Giro Riela RII ...Shoes for women. Built with tough uppers, rugged outsoles, and footbeds that keep you comfortable from first to last mile, the Riela RII's are hungry for the trail, and with Giro's sleek styling, you don't have to stress hitting the brewery for a post ride pale ale with the ladies. The Riela RII uses the same over all construction as her predecessor, the Riela R, with three hook-and-loop straps securing your foot in, and microfiber uppers, but those of us who get a wicked case of hot-foot on most rides get a big win with the addition of large mesh panels along the toe box and lateral portions of the shoes. The microfiber still uses perforations, just as it used to, to help with venting, but the added mesh aids in moisture transfer, helping your feet stay cool and comfortable all day long. A comfortable EVA footbed gives you the support you need inside of the shoe to stay comfortable, and underneath, a nylon injected outsole stiffens things up, so you don't waste your energy on a shoe flexing under your pedal stroke, and instead transfer that power directly to the bike. The outsole is also topped off with hearty portions of rubber lugs that add traction to the shoe, so when you have to make your way through river beds or up steep, rocky faces, you'll have the grip you need to do it safely. To cap it off, there is a large recessed cleat pad underneath your foot, so you have plenty of room to lock in any 2-bolt mountain cleat, so you can clip into your favorite pedals and ride off into the sunset. read more
The Giro Women's Manta R Shoes serve as a refreshing update to the original Manta, preserving all the qualities riders loved while... updating the outsole to co-molded nylon and rubber for an impeccable mix of comfort, stiffness, and grip. A rubber toe guard also increases the new Manta R's lifespan by protecting the leading edge of the shoes on the most technical trails. The Manta R's closure system consists of a ratcheting buckle at the top and two hook-and-loop straps across the midfoot and toe box that are easily adjustable on the fly for a secure, comfortable fit. The upper is made of breathable microfiber and features perforations for added cooling and a sleek, minimalist profile. Giro incorporates a co-molded nylon and rubber outsole with grippy, high traction lugs for confident foot placement on and off the bike. The outsole's tread pattern also accommodates flat pedal riding while providing debris clearance for two-bolt clipless pedals, so they'll travel with you between disciplines. read more

The upper is a breathable, synthetic leather with three hook-and-loop straps that provide a comfortable, customized fit without any irritating pressure points. Manta Lace Mountain Bike Shoe - Women's
Engineers at Giro weren't about to let the runners blast past cyclists when it comes to knitted technology. Instead, they took the... best parts, and weaved in some elevated cycling-specific tech to develop the first knitted shoes for exceptional performance on the road with the Giro Empire E70 Knit Shoe for Women. These knit kicks use Giro's newly developed Xnetic Knit technology, which is burlier and more abrasion resistant that most knit running shoes, and DWR treated to fight off the elements while you ride. To create some rigidity to the shoe, Giro's designers created a skeletal system that supports you where you need it, but allowing the knit to provide its supple stretch and next-level breathability for sock-like comfort. While the DWR treatment on the shoe does wonders to fight off the rain and make for easy cleaning, stepping in puddles can be inevitable at times, so Giro backs up the E70 Knit Shoe with TPU on the heel and toe, shielding from the wet, and protecting from debris on the road. The sole is made from Easton's EC70 carbon fiber, stiff enough for the most rigorous riding, with quick power transfer and minimal flex under pressure. The soles are set up for 3-bolt road cleats, and come with sturdy steel hardware for long-lasting use. read more
You may spend the majority of your ride time on singletrack, but unlike a lot of your fellow dirt hounds, you're riding for time o...n both the up and the down. Whether the speed and technique required on the 'cross circuit keeps you training every night after work, or you prefer the speed of XC, trust the Giro Women's Empire W VR90 Shoe to deliver power to the pedals times and time again. The Empire's elegant silhouette has been beyond reproach, in our minds, since Giro first introduced it, and the VR90 continues the legacy of clean lines and impeccable fit, adapted to the rigors of trail life. Giro crafts each VR90 with an entirely one-piece Teijin microfiber upper, eliminating stitching, seaming, and overlays to leave you with lightweight support around the rolling contours of your feet. More breathable and weather-resistant than leather, synthetic Teijin microfiber molds around your feet much like its natural cousin. Use the lace-up design to make infinite adjustments in width and tightness along the length of your toes and instep to achieve a secure fit without the burden of hot spots distracting you from flyovers and technical rock gardens. When you're throwing all of your energy into the pedals to keep speed heading into a grueling climb, count on the Easton EC90 carbon fiber outsole to consistently deliver your watts to the pedals each time you turn them. The soles accommodate spikes for added traction on slick, muddy race days, and Giro subtly adds Vibram rubber lugs to the bottoms to make sure you can run your bike through sand pits as confidently as you ride it. Underneath your arch, Giro's Super Natural Fit kit gives you the option to swap out arch support until you find what's right for you, ensuring your foot's mechanics don't hinder your ride from inside your shoe. read more
