Still sorting out how to balance your new bun in the oven with an old workout routine? Well, the timing is perfect to put high-tech fitness trackers to the test to monitor safe prenatal exercises, heart rates and sleep patterns while staying healthy and fit for the next nine months (and beyond, of course!). New moms must keep moving for optimal well-being, suggests G. Thomas Ruiz, MD, OB/GYN Lead at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California. "We encourage expectant women to engage in exercise or physical activity on a regular basis throughout their pregnancy," he advises. "Women who are physically active during pregnancy tend to have smaller babies, which most women who are pushing out a kid don't mind." But what about the anxieties of pregnant moms who fear the harmful effects of radiation from such devices? "There has never been a study to demonstrate that background radiation from a cell phone or a Bluetooth device has had a deleterious effect on the outcome of pregnancy," says Dr. Ruiz. "There has been no data to determine it. We do ultrasounds on a regular basis, which is sending sound energy to the baby so we can do diagnostic work, and that is at a much higher level of energy than a cell phone. It's never been shown to demonstrate harmful effects towards the baby or the pregnancy. So moms can use their trackers to their heart's content." So stay strong and count on, Mama! From Fitbit to Bellabeat, here are are our best picks to keep new moms stepping out in style.

Coffee is always in the press with it's good, it's bad argument. This book clearly spells out the facts on what coffee is and is...n't. Suppose you have a heart condition and your cardiologist says you should stop. Should you. Did you make the right choice or did you make things worse. Did the doctor render his / her opinion or did they just tell you some outdated fact. Was it specific to your Atrial Fibrillation or Stroke. The point I'm laboring to make is we should make calculated decisions to help ourselves that this book, chapter after chapter tells you whether coffee will help your specific condition and point you to modern research that proves the point. Empower yourself, educate yourself and protect yourself with the facts. Kind regards, Allen Huff, BS, DC read more

A Practical Guide for Raising a Self-Directed and Caring Child: An Alternative to the Tiger Mother Parenting Style
Countering the "Tiger Mother" parenting style, this research-based, practical guide provides an excellent framework for raising co...mpetent and compassionate children. In an era of "helicopter" parents-moms and dads who constantly hover over their children to monitor and manage their lives-and our culture's focus on personal gain and corporate greed, there is great need for a parenting guide that outlines how to raise children who are well adjusted. "A Practical Guide for Raising a Self-Directed and Caring Child" fills that void. In response to Amy Chua's recent bestseller, "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother," psychologist Louis J. Lichtman, PhD, presents a compelling case for the notion that children will be more successful if they are self-directed rather than parent-controlled. Through anecdotes and research studies, Lichtman illustrates how to build a child's self-esteem and delves into how parenting styles and disciplinary practices influence a child's behavior and character. Lichtman also gives special attention to the topics of achievement, parenting during the adolescent years, and how family structure impacts children. In addition, Lichtman discusses how to avoid common parenting mistakes, issues to consider before deciding to become a parent, and how to give children the best possible start in life. Designed to help parents develop a set of guiding parenting principles, this guide is applicable to all situations and to children of all ages. "A Practical Guide for Raising a Self-Directed and Caring Child" offers a solid, comprehensive resource for today's parents. read more
