This is Vera Harris's third self-published children's book. Even before I started Happy Reading, self-published in 2014, I've alwa...ys had an interest in becoming a book author. I love creating fun-filled stories that captivate the hearts of little kids, so I worked hard to make my dream a reality. My first books, A Bee on My Bike (2014) and Zach and His Cat (2015), both appeared in Storymonster.com, a family magazine, and Storytime Pup. They were also featured in Children's Books Read Aloud on YouTube. I was a part of the Dallas Book Festival 2016, the Houston Texas Black Book Festival, Dallas Public Library Reader's Fest, and numerous book-signing ventures throughout Dallas-Fort Worth Metro as well. You can take a look at my books at the Dallas Public Library; Ellen Brooks West Memorial Library of Forney in Texas; Houston, Texas Public Library; and the Savannah, Georgia Public Library. I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my family, most of whom fondly call me Sister. Aside from these hobbies, I also love working in the church and being a volunteer reading partner for the Dallas Independent School District. A retired combat Army veteran, I served the U.S. Army with honor and distinction for thirty years. My dedication earned me two Bronze Star medals plus various other commendations, certificates, medals, and honors. Vera Harris, called Sister by her family, loves spending time with her family and working in her church. Her grandson inspired her to write her first book. My books can be purchased at OutskirtsPress.com, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble. Take the tunnel entrance down to an underground armadillo home and the reader crosses the threshold to take a delightful magical j...ourney into the educational life of four very young naughty armadillos. The little armadillo's names are Beetle Bop, Hip Hop, Flip Flop, and Poops Alot. Momma Mee Mop and Daddy Doo Whop add to the humor throughout this light-hearted children's tale. The illustrations complete the enchantment. IN THE OUTSIDE centers on very interesting armadillo facts: The strange creature-feature of this critter is an armored shoulder and hip shield connected by nine movable bands of bony plates. An extra bonus in this story is the Brazilian three-banded armadillo's incredible ability to roll itself into a ball. Since every litter of young uns is always four in number and always of the same sex -- the story IN THE OUTSIDE features four males. (Worldwide scientific studies are underway to investigate the why and how of that birth order.) The story also portrays the armadillo's quickness (or not) that has earned it the moniker "the flying tank of the animal kingdom". In addition, its powerful claws on four stubby legs enable them to burrow deep and quickly. The nine-banded armadillo, designated as the Texas State Mammal, is nevertheless subject to a love/hate relationship with adult gardeners and landscape engineers. The armadillo has the innate instinct to burrow underground and he does so with complete abandon. On the other hand, and contrary to that love/hate attitude, in March of 2012, the Brazilian weekly, Veja, reported that the three-banded armadillo would be the official mascot for the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil. Official announcement came in September 2012. The book IN THE OUTSIDE also briefly touches on an historic era when the armadillo was a marked critter in the author's home town of Comfort, Texas. Dating back to 1933, Charles Apelt, a German immigrant, owned and operated (just outside of Comfort) an actual Armadillo Farm. read more

Light Switch To Heaven is the delightful tale of Queen Itup and Pick Itup working tirelessly every night while you are sleeping to... make the sky ready for the next day. As a child my father read me stories almost every night, but for me, that was simply the beginning. When the book closed and my eyes shut tight, that's when the real adventure began. Come see where your imagination will take you as you discover the magical thing called the light switch to heaven. . . About the Author: Much like the rest of you, I came into this world kicking and screaming. Later in life, kicking and screaming turned into temper tantrums. Sound familiar? Honestly, maybe one of the only times I would ever shut up was when I was tucked into bed and read a goodnight story. It's funny how at the age of 42, not only do I still remember those times, but I consider myself a better person because of them. I am very much a kid at heart, and am not ashamed to admit it. So here I am, sharing my story with anyone that will read it. In the end, it's not about how many awards I have received or how many books I have sold. For me, it all comes down to this: If one child falls asleep smiling tonight and wakes up tomorrow with his imagination running wild, well. . . that's perfectly alright with me. read more
