According to the American Academy of Pediatrics Childhood Sleep Guidelines, infants should sleep between 12 to 16 hours, while growing toddlers should grab between 11 to 14 hours of shut-eye. That's why picking the perfect crib mattress is key for a good night (and naptime) slumber for your little lamb.
While there are several factors to consider when choosing a crib mattress and setting up a safe sleep environment for your child. Parents should select "a firm mattress that is made for the crib, meaning perfect in size with a tight-fitting sheet," suggests S. Daniel Ganjian, MD, a pediatrician at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California. "There should be no space between the mattress and the sides of the crib."
And other than a fitted sheet, there shouldn't be anything in the baby's bed, particularly during the first year. "The most common mistake that parents make is putting something in the crib besides a tightly swaddled baby," says Gina Posner, MD, a pediatrician at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, CA. "There should be no stuffed animals, no crib bumpers and no sleep positioners. Just make sure it is a new crib that is up to current standards."
Dr. Ganjian also advises against using an old crib and mattress. "Hand me downs used to be great, but now you really have to watch out for them, since many have been recalled or are dangerous because there is some subtle defect that you might not be aware of."
In celebration of Sleep Awareness Week, we've rounded up our top picks of comfy, crib mattresses with quality features to ensure that tired newborns and tots transitioning to a toddler bed sleep like babies so Mom and Dad can rest a whole lot easier.

How do you know if your tween or child is ready for her first bra? It depends — companies make training bras for girls ages 5 or 6 up to teenage sizes. All girls develop at different rates, and it's up to each girl and her family to decide when it's time to go first-bra shopping. Some good indicators that your girl has reached training bra age is that she's expressing interest in getting one. Beginning with lightly lined bras is an easy way to introduce girls to the basics of dressing as an adult, and it's OK to let her practice (or "train") even if she isn't quite ready for the real thing. Even if your girl hasn't let you know she's in the market for a bra, it might be time to buy her first bra if she's noticeably developing, experiencing pain from lack of support or starting to be active in sports. We've rounded up great training bras for tweens, from sports bras to bralettes, from retailers like Walmart, Target, Justice and Yellowberry.

Baby accessorizing is nothing new, especially headwear. Little ones are known to lose heat through their heads, so a little coverage over that fuzzy head is key in their early months—then make it fashion! These days, celebrity mommies and mommy bloggers everywhere take to Instagram daily to show off how they're dressing up their little ones, and we can't help but swoon. One style, in particular, has been taking baby fashion by a storm: Headwraps and top knots.
This sweet look is a chic upgrade from your average beanie or little hat. It can be spotted on the babies of a lot of celebrity moms from Hilary Duff to Kate Hudson and Khloe Kardashian. If your infant is always on the move, the turban and top knots are designed to stay put, unlike some other hats and accessories that spend more time on the floor than on your baby's noggin. The wraps are easy to slide on, too—yes, even on a very squirmy babe. We've hand-picked our favorite turbans, top knots and headwraps from Amazon, Etsy and more so your stylish baby can don some flair, without sacrificing comfort.
