In Dash’s Pause, the love of the Father chases a rabbit’s heart through friendship, peril, trickery and rescue. The furry creature...’s real name and newfound courage gained by believing Truth lead him to embrace his story. The story is set in the historical context of a medieval monastery, where illuminated manuscripts were created to preserve the Word of God. Charming illustrations link the alphabet to Biblical character traits of God the Father, inspiring readers to use a mnemonic device to help hide His Word in their own hearts. “We all have a story. Dash’s Pause is an enchanting, provoking, and hopeful tale that invites readers to explore theme s of courage, surrender and redemption in their own story…this book offers a unique glimpse into the Gospel story and provides an opportunity for readers to “pause’ and discover the gifts of gratitude, stillness, and hope in their own journey.” Amy Alexander, LMFT, Executive Director, The Refuge Center for Counseling www.therefugecenter.org “A good story captures a child’s interest, a great story captures an adult’s too. A delightful tale that draws us to feel trapped, afraid, unaware, hurt and anxiously lost. Who will help us? Kinder and Virden entice all ages to reflect on our desperate estate and the One who offers the only remedy.” Dr. Michael Easley, Former President, Moody Bible Institute, Lead Pastor, Fellowship Bible Church, Brentwood, TN “Connie Kinder and Carole Virden have created a masterpiece of Biblical children’s literature. Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" has been translated into over a hundred languages, from French to Japan...ese to Esperanto. In this translation into the rich dialect of the Appalachian Mountains, the translators have treated the story as a folktale, in order to create the sense that the reader is listening as an adult tells the story to a child. The story has been transported from Victorian English to post-Civil-War West Virginia, into an Appalachian setting appropriate for the dialect. The spelling used aims towards a literary orthography, rather than towards a phonemic respelling of the language entirely, and so it avoids unnecessary "eye-dialect" ("funkshun" instead of "function", and so forth). The sounds of the language used in "Alice's Adventures in an Appalachian Wonderland" will certainly be familiar to most readers, but a short glossary has also been included. read more
