Explorer Academy by Trudi Trueit is a seven book fiction series inspired by the real-life science, exploration, and mission of the National Geographic Society. The series is the first major foray into fiction for National Geographic Kids.

The Nebula Secret and The Falcon’s Feather were the first two titles released in the seven-book middle grade series. They will be followed up by an action-packed story called The Double Helix.

The series follows 12-year-old Cruz Coronado as he leaves behind his home in Hawaii to attend the prestigious Explorer Academy, where he and 23 other students from around the globe will train to become the next generation of great explorers. In the midst of codebreaking and cool classes, new friends and amazing augmented-reality expeditions, Cruz discovers a mysterious past that could jeopardize his future.

National Geographic dives deeper into the critically acclaimed Explorer Academy fiction series with a third action-packed book, Explorer Academy: The Double Helix.

The journey continues with central character Cruz Coronado and his fellow explorers as they set sail on all-new exotic expeditions aboard the Academy flagship, Orion, using the latest science and groundbreaking technology.

Inspired by the pioneering work of real-life space archaeologist Sarah Parcak, Cruz and his classmates use high-tech images from satellites to locate the buried sites of ancient civilizations and to help combat the real problem of artifact looting. “The Truth Behind the Fiction” section of the book explains how Parcak uses infrared light, UV light and microwaves to reveal pyramids, temples and even entire cities buried beneath layers of forest and soil.

This captivating book will enthrall curious readers as the mysteries that have been following Cruz and his classmates continue to unfold at each exciting turn of the page!

Explorer Academy: The Double Helix will be available for purchase on September 24 for $16.99. It is currently available for pre-order on Amazon!
