8 Adorable Dollhouses for Less Than $50
Shop Story
To some kids, dollhouses are magic–period. There’s a reason why the classic Barbie Dream House has been an in-demand toy for kids since the 1960s. Dollhouses combine miniatures–currently popular with kids; check any toy aisle in a store, even Walgreens–and young imaginations, but making your own dollhouse furniture, accessories, and family members provides hours of fun. Some dollhouses are so detailed and intricate you’ll wish your own family lived inside of it.
However, take note–dollhouses can be pricey. They’re so niche and specific in shape and style, which ultimately results in high production costs. Thus, most toy dollhouses cost around $100 or more. But there are some high-quality, smaller ones out there for less than $50 your kids will forever cherish. Check out our round-up below. (Note: dollhouses contain many mini pieces; recommended age is 3+)

Melissa and Doug Fold & Go Mini Dollhouse

I can always count on toy pioneers Melissa & Doug to have the exact toy I kids (claim) they need. In fact, my daughters have this exact pink dollhouse and they love it. Since we live in an apartment; its compact size is a major plus. This house has all the basics, is lightweight--you can just fold it up like a book and carry it (it has handles) to Grammy's house for a long weekend--and sturdy. It's much nicer quality than I thought it would be, and has 11 pieces of wood furniture and two "people" figurines. Simple and straightforward with 4 'empty' rooms to design, this dollhouse opens and closes easily; and weighs less than 4 lbs. (Measurements: 12.5 x 7.5 x 10 inches) Note: There's this pink wooden version; and a plain wood style, sold separately, for those who prefer a non-pink dollhouse. (The latter is slightly bigger than the pink version.)

Liberty Imports My Sweet Home Fold and Go

This whimsical plastic dollhouse has all the "bells and whistles" you'd expect from a decent dollhouse. It folds nicely, is an Amazon's Choice product, which mean parents gravitate towards it for kids, and is chock-full of furniture to make it homey. This set contains the two-story solid plastic dollhouse (of course) with a Kitchen/Dining area, Foyer, Living Room, Bathroom, Master Bedroom, and a second bedroom. You can open/close the front door, and family member figurines include: mom, dad, daughter, and dog. I love the intricate window details on this home; and accessories include bed, kitchen table, chairs, and more. The whole set is plastic and weighs just slightly over 1 lb. Summarizes one happy customer: "Cute house for the price." (Measurements: 11 x 7 x 10.5 inches)

Barbie Glam Getaway House

Even Barbie needs a break from Ken by hanging out in a decked-out pink home. This particular dollhouse is exclusive to Amazon, so you can't find it in any stores. Since that sounds like a collector's item to me, I'd jump on this one-of-a-kind toy ASAP because you never know what it could be worth down the line. Anyway, this cheeky, portable dollhouse with carry handle unfolds to reveal a play space 2.5 feet wide and featuring 3 rooms: a kitchenette, bedroom, and suite. Each room is adorned with cute accessories and doodads, in typical Barbie fashion--there's a towel rack and towel, toilet (!), pink storage box,  bed, vase, books, stove, pots and plates, teapot, perfume...House features includes a working door plus latch. Kids will create some fabulous stories with this space, and who knows--you might have a budding interior designer on your hands. Of note: Dolls sold separately. House is 1 lb,  19 x 5.5 x 12.8 inches.

Barbie Doll Dream House Toy Box & Playmat

Barbie to the rescue again! Is there anything Barbara Millicent Roberts DOESN'T have?! (That's Barbie's real name, by the way.) This is actually a playmat-slash-toybox; it ships as a colorful playmat that can be zippered 'up" to convert into a box--no dolls or furniture are included; those must be purchased separately. So, while this is not a traditional dollhouse per se, I like that it's unique and multi-use. The mat/dreamhouse's home interior rooms include: a patio, bedroom, kitchen, music studio, den and, of course, a swimming pool. According to the brand's manufacturer, this Amazon's Choice item is tested to the most stringent quality and safety standard and the material is durable and easy to clean. Described as a "fashionable mansion that doubles as a storage bin" when the mat is converted to its box shape, it can hold up to 40 standard Barbie dolls and tons of accessories. Box contains a lid. Product Dimensions: 12 x 12 x 12 inches; Mat Dimensions: 36 x 36 inches; weight 1.35 lbs.

CUTEBEE Dollhouse Miniature with Furniture

This is a very special dollhouse, best for an older child around age twelve.  Here why it's really niche and special: you can't play with this dollhouse or its miniatures. It's a DYI craft and a bit more intricate to assemble than a kids dollhouse. But it's eye-catching and gorgeous. The furniture looks modern and sleek, and unique accessories include plants, LED lights,  washer/dryer, and a flat-screen TV--when it comes to dollhouses, this is not kids stuff; it's a dream for a tween and a great project to work on together for some bonding. The house structure itself is made of high-quality wood, paper, and cloth. You will need glue and batteries (for the lights and music box to operate) and the set comes with detailed instructions. One reviewer said, "it just looks like a real house, and when it does have a lot more details than I thought." Item weight: 1.3 lbs; Measurements: 12.2 x 9.4 x 2.5 inches.

O-Toys Mini Fold & Go Dollhouse

If your kid's really into pink, they'll love this VERY pink portable dollhouse. I showed a picture of this dollhouse to my 1st grader and her eyes lit up and she said she'd absolutely play with it, so it's  (my) kid-approved even though it's pretty basic. (Hey, even basic can trigger one's imagination, right?!)  This dollhouse folds up into a cute pink purse, which is so cool--I love surprises like that when it comes to toys. Made of non-toxic, thick plastic and silicone, when the purse it opened it converts to a pink dressing room with a collection of  plastic doll clothes, a tea party set, tables and chairs, and more. One doll is included. Dimensions: 17.1inch x 5.1inch x 12.9 inch

Home & Go Dollhouse Playset Travel & Storage Case

This toy bedroom actually opens like a book; and the book is decorated like a balcony complete with a picture of a cartoony princess on the outside. When the fabric book is 'opened,' you'll find a pink bedroom great for a Barbie doll or any other 12" dolls.  It comes with a pretend doll bed with blanket and mini pillow--I love the black, white, and pink lipstick-themed design of the bedding; it's very hip. The 'bedroom' itself showcases pictures of disco balls and a vanity. There's also a sheer shower/dressing. Easy to assemble, this bedroom set makes a nice gift for a doll lover. Measurements: Overall size 11 inches L x 3.5 inches W x 14 inches H.
