The Best Toys and Kits for Kids to Celebrate National STEM Day
Shop Story

This month marks the celebration of National STEM Day on November 8th. When it comes to strengthening your child’s STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, and math), parents now have a wide variety of toys and kits to choose from to build curiosity in scientific concepts while considering your kid’s interests to keep these teaching tools exciting and fun.

CEO and GoldieBlox founder Debbie Sterling recognized the need for more STEM toys in the product market to get girls interested in engineering years ago. “When I founded GoldieBlox in 2012, almost all of the building and construction toys on the market were geared toward boys. This lack of girls’ exposure to STEM at a young age reinforced the idea that engineering and STEM careers weren’t appropriate for women,” she explains.

Sterling changed the game along with that dated perception by creating a line of building and DIY kits designed to encourage girls to use their skills and creativity to develop fun and functional pieces that they love. “While girls enjoy playing with them and learning how to make and create, they are also learning valuable lessons about trial and error, overcoming challenges, and other STEM-based skills. Perhaps most importantly, they help inspire girls to believe that they can engineer their own futures.”

We’ve rounded up the best STEM sets to engage, empower and entertain girls and boys of all ages while sparking a genuine love of learning.
